1
Canadian Transcontinental Rail Journey

DURATION: 9 days / 8 nights

In 1885, the Canadian Pacific Railway completed Canada’s first transcontinental rail line. It then moved immediately to construct first class, castle-like railway hotels to enhance tourism traffic to the west. By 1900, Canadian Pacific’s Rocky Mountain Railway Journey had become one of the world’s great rail travel experiences, along with the Orient Express and the Trans Siberian Railway. Come and enjoy 3,000 miles of incredible views of mountains, lakes, vast plains, and forest. Relive the elegance and romance of this "Gilded Age" travel experience, when beauty and fine travel were a way of life.

Spend 3 nights in the Rocky Mountains, at Canadian Pacific’s world famous railway resort hotels*, magnificently restored to reflect the luxury and elegance associated with the Golden Age of Travel. Then, enjoy two spectacular days of rail travel through the mountain ranges and valleys of British Columbia, with Rocky Mountaineer’s luxurious Gold Leaf service, featuring a full-length dome coach with an open-air observation platform and gourmet dining, before arriving in Vancouver, Canada’s gateway to the Pacific Rim. This is truly a memorable trip.
* Now under the Fairmont banner.

Historic Nova Scotia

DURATION: 8 days / 7 nights

With its unspoiled coastline, dramatic history, and some of the world’s friendliest people, Nova Scotia is one of the most interesting summer travel destinations in North America. This Canadian Maritime province was once a colonial border between three great empires, as the French, the English, and later the Americans struggled for control of the eastern seaboard. You can still sense the dramatic past of Nova Scotia’s colonial days in the streets of imperial Halifax and Louisbourg.

The program begins with a full day in Halifax. Founded by the British in 1749, Halifax is the world’s second largest natural port and has always been a strategic gateway to the north Atlantic. See the Halifax Public Gardens, Citadel Hill and the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic. Finish the day with "picture perfect" Peggy’s Cove. Then depart for four days to enjoy the stunning panorama of Cape Breton Island. See the Bras d’Or Lakes, where Alexander Graham Bell sought peace and tranquillity each summer and visit the museum dedicated to him. Take a trip along the stunning Cabot Trail where rugged mountains rush to meet the sea, then visit the Gaelic College. The next day, travel down to the 18th-century fortress town of Louisbourg. Enjoy wonderful seafood and discover the Gaelic traditions of Nova Scotia folk music and dance.
